Highlighting the Problem in Dragonwilds: The Password Is pthentorok

Highlighting the Problem is a puzzle quest with one answer you either find or you do not: a statue in the Runecrafting Guild demands a password, and the password sits in a different vault entirely. It is pthentorok. Knowing that turns a vault crawl into a two-minute detour — and the quest's reward, the recipe for the staff of light, is worth the trip either way.
Quest Details

| Field | Detail |
|---|---|
| Type | Secondary |
| Start | Interact with the statue of a wizard in the Runecrafting Guild, Bramblemead Valley |
| Requires | First Steps |
| Recommended | Good armour and weapons, food |
| Enemies | Multiple Goblins |
| Reward | Recipe for the staff of light |
The reward is a recipe, not an item — which means it pays back every time you build one, and is worth more over a long run than a single weapon would be.
The Password, and Where It Lives
The statue asks for a password. It is in the Thishepen Kara vault, at the base of the cliff near the guild, in a room that requires Windstep to reach.
You do not need to complete the whole vault; you can simply go for the password, which is found at a glowing blue statue hidden on an elevated path to your right in a room of four giant rats.
The password is pthentorok.
Three details make this a short trip rather than a vault run:
- You do not have to clear Thishepen Kara. Go in, get the password, leave.
- The glowing blue statue is on an elevated path to the right, in the room with four giant rats — so the rats are the landmark, not the obstacle.
- Windstep is the access, both to reach the vault room and to climb to the statue.
If you already know the password you can skip the vault entirely and give it to the wizard statue directly. Whether that feels like cheating is a taste question; the quest does not check that you visited.
The Three Towers

Give the statue the password and a mysterious voice hands you a mysterious orb (uncharged). Charging it is the quest's second half:
Interact with three pedestals, one on each of the three towers surrounding the main tower in the guild.
The player must use Windstep to reach the top of the towers, and can take advantage of surrounding rubble and other scenery.
Windstep is the whole traversal system here, which is why it appears twice in one quest. The tip about rubble and scenery is worth acting on: you do not have to Windstep the full height of a tower from ground level — climbing onto debris first shortens each cast, and air runes are a finite resource.
After all three pedestals, the orb becomes the mysterious orb (charged), and you return to the first statue to receive the recipe.
Why the Staff of Light Matters
The staff of light is the quest's entire payout, and it sits in the magic tier that Dragonwilds' caster builds are working toward.
That matters because of what the rest of the game asks for. The Kalphite Queen hard-blocks one combat style at a time with her coloured shades, so any two-style loadout clears her and any single-style loadout stalls. The Elite Black Knight is weak to Air alone with no physical weakness at all. The Umbral Sands kalphite castes resist Crush, Slash, Stab, Range, Air and Water, leaving Earth and Fire — both magic.
A caster option is not optional at the top of Dragonwilds, and this quest hands you a permanent recipe for one from a First Steps-gated secondary quest in the starting region. That is an unusually early payoff.
Doing It Efficiently

- Carry air runes. Windstep is needed for the vault room, the statue inside it, and all three towers.
- Go to Thishepen Kara at the base of the cliff near the guild — or skip it, since you know the password.
- The password is pthentorok. The statue is glowing blue, on an elevated path to the right, in a room with four giant rats.
- Give it to the wizard statue and take the uncharged orb.
- Windstep the three towers, using rubble to shorten the climbs.
- Return to the first statue for the staff of light recipe.
Goblins are the only enemy listed, and they are weak to Fire — at 140 health for a Warrior and 120 for an Archer in the Brynmoor tier, they are not the difficulty here. The traversal is.
Running your own Dragonwilds server
A puzzle quest is one somebody in the group has already solved, which is the whole argument for playing in one shared world. A gamever Dragonwilds server keeps Ashenfall persistent with automatic updates and one-click backups.
Conclusion
Highlighting the Problem starts at the statue of a wizard in the Runecrafting Guild in Bramblemead Valley and needs only First Steps. Its gate is a password held in the Thishepen Kara vault, at the base of the cliff near the guild, at a glowing blue statue on an elevated path to the right, in a room of four giant rats — and you do not need to complete the vault to get it. The password is pthentorok. Handing it over produces an uncharged mysterious orb, which you charge by Windstepping to three pedestals on the three towers surrounding the guild's main tower, using rubble and scenery to shorten the climbs and save air runes. Return to the first statue and you receive the recipe for the staff of light — a permanent unlock rather than a one-off item, and an unusually early route to a caster weapon in a game where the Kalphite Queen demands two combat styles, the Elite Black Knight is weak to Air alone, and the Umbral Sands castes leave only Earth and Fire unresisted.
