Granite Mauled in Dragonwilds: Four Statues, One Vault, and Gas in Every Corner

Ashien's Watch in the Fractured Plains.

Granite Mauled sends you to Ashien's Watch on Doric's behalf, and the quest has two halves that need completely different preparation. The overworld half is finding and activating four statues. The underground half is the Skeklac Kara vault, where poisonous gas bubbles sit in corners and explode, and the boss at the end is a Vault Corruptor that poisons you as well.

Items neededOne slot free in your quest inventory; 5+ air runes for Windstep, or ash logs to bridge the gap
RecommendedGood armour and weapons, weak antipoison potions or better
EnemiesGoblins, garou, giant rats and putrid rats, vault guardians, exploding plant traps

The quest-inventory slot is a hard requirement, listed first. You receive a blueprint at the end and it goes to the quest inventory — the same behaviour as Heartstrings' crystal seed and Restless Ghosts' amulet. Check it is not full before you set out.

Doric is south of Ashien's Watch, on a lookout with ruins on it, with a broken bridge leading to the other side. That broken bridge is why the quest lists 5 or more air runes for Windstep — or ash logs to build across it. Either works; the runes are lighter.

The Four Statues

Doric explains that Ashien's Watch held the "valuable relics and supplies" during the time of the dragon, that he went looking, and that he was chased off. Your job is to get in.

Locate and activate all four statues in Ashien's Watch. That opens the Skeklac Kara vault.

The overworld here is held by goblins and garou, both of which want different answers:

  • Goblins are weak to Fire — the Warrior at 140 health and the Archer at 120 in Brynmoor-tier regions.
  • Garou split four ways — Hunter to Air, Berserker to Ranged, Druid to Fire, Thane and King to Crush.

Fire covers goblins and Druids, which makes it the single best element to carry for the surface half.

The Vault Is a Poison Problem

Card explaining the poison hazards inside Skeklac Kara.

The walkthrough is unusually specific about the danger, and it is worth quoting:

Make sure to bring forms of antipoison (cooked food with poison resistance or some weak antipoison potions), as there are putrid rats and poisonous gas bubbles that explode and poison you. Make sure to check for blind spots, as the gas bubbles are in many corners and can deal high damage to the player.

    Three things follow:

  • Antipoison has two sources here. Potions work, and so does cooked food with poison resistance — which is cheaper and something you may already be carrying.
  • Drink or eat before you enter, not after the first bubble. Dragonwilds applies resistance when the effect is created and ignores it on every tick afterwards.
  • The bubbles are positional, not random. They sit in corners and blind spots, so the counter is to look before you turn, rather than to out-heal them.

The exploding plant traps in the enemy list are the same hazard by another name.

The Vault Corruptor

The lever that opens the boss doors puts you in front of a Vault Corruptor, and the walkthrough's advice is direct: use ranged weapons or magic to avoid getting hit, because it deals high damage and poison on top of the putrid rats already in the room.

    Its published stats explain why:

FieldValue
Health2,925
Power level4
Weak toWater
Resistant toFire
Immune toPoison, Bleed, Burning

Fire is resisted, which reverses the surface loadout. The element that carried you through the goblins and garou above is the wrong one down here — bring Water for the boss.

And it is immune to Poison, Bleed and Burning, so a poisoned weapon does nothing back. That immunity is shared by almost every Vault Guardian, and it is the standing rule for vault content.

Finishing

Card outlining the final steps of Granite Mauled.

After the boss, interact with the statue at the end and you receive a blueprint — into that quest-inventory slot you cleared. Bring it back to Doric for translation and the quest completes.

    The efficient route:

  1. Clear a quest-inventory slot and carry 5+ air runes.
  2. Eat poison-resistant food or drink antipoison before descending.
  3. Bring Fire for the surface — goblins and Garou Druids both answer to it.
  4. Bring Water for the vault — the Corruptor resists Fire and is weak to Water.
  5. Check corners before entering them. The gas is placed, not random.
  6. Fight the Corruptor at range, as the walkthrough recommends.

Running your own Dragonwilds server

A vault with a boss and a poison hazard is a run you would rather do with somebody watching the corners, and that needs one persistent world. A gamever Dragonwilds server keeps Ashenfall running with automatic updates and one-click backups.

Conclusion

Granite Mauled starts with Doric north-east of the Fractured Plains, requires First Steps, and asks for two things before you leave: one free slot in your quest inventory for the blueprint at the end, and 5 or more air runes for Windstep — or ash logs — to cross the broken bridge by his lookout. The surface half is finding and activating four statues in Ashien's Watch, across ground held by goblins and garou, where Fire covers both the goblins and the Garou Druids. The vault half inverts that: Skeklac Kara is full of putrid rats and poisonous gas bubbles that sit in corners and blind spots, so check before you turn and take antipoison before descending — cooked food with poison resistance works as well as potions. The boss is a Vault Corruptor at 2,925 health, weak to Water, resistant to Fire and immune to Poison, Bleed and Burning, which makes the surface loadout the wrong one and a poisoned weapon useless. Take it at range, as the walkthrough advises, then interact with the statue for the blueprint and return it to Doric.
