Every Fish Dish in Dragonwilds: Fish Heal, They Do Not Feed

A Dragonwilds riverbank.

Read the fish section of Dragonwilds' recipe list and one number repeats until it stops looking like a coincidence: 30 sustenance. Steamed Beltfish, Sun Baked Sole, Smoked Infernal Eel — all 30, all paired with 100 to 130 health. Fish in Dragonwilds are healing items with a food label, and there are exactly two exceptions worth cooking instead.

Fish Dishes by Health

Smoked Infernal Eel100301.0
Grilled Undead Bass80251.0
Monkfish Fillets60251.0
Braised Undead Eel60251.0
Roasted Lobster50200.7

Nine dishes, and seven of them sit at 25 or 30 sustenance. That consistency is the design: fish are not meant to fill you.

Sun Baked Sole is the purest example130 health for 30 sustenance, which is more than a Roast Dinner heals while feeding you barely a third as much.

Roasted Lobster is the weakest on both counts at 50 health and 20 sustenance, though its 0.7 weight keeps it respectable per kilogram.

The Sustenance Is Low

Compare a fish dish to a meal at the same weight and the split is obvious:

DishHealthSustenance
Steamed Beltfish (1.0)10030
Vegetable Soup (0.8)4050
Meat Pizza (0.7)90110

A fish dish buys health; a meal buys sustenance. Neither is better — they are answers to different problems, and a pack of only one leaves you either full and fragile or healthy and starving.

Which is why the sustenance-per-weight ranking puts most fish low. Steamed Beltfish at 30 sustenance for 1.0 weight is 30 per unit — below even the 2.0-kilo roast dinners. On food value alone, fish are poor.

On healing per weight they are excellent, which is the axis that actually matters when you are packing for a fight rather than a walk.

So the rule is: fish for the boss, meals for the journey.

Two Fish Break the Rule

Card highlighting the two Dragonwilds fish dishes that do both jobs.

Stuffed Catfish does both jobs at once: 200 health AND 80 sustenance, at 0.7 weight. That is the second-highest healing in the game, a full meal's worth of food value, and the lightest weight bracket — it is simply the best food in Dragonwilds, and nothing else in the fish list is close.

Monkfish Skewers versus Monkfish Fillets is the other lesson, and it is a lesson about recipes rather than ingredients:

HealthSustenance
Monkfish Skewers12050
Monkfish Fillets6025

Exactly double, on both numbers, from the same fish. The skewer recipe is worth twice the fillet recipe — so if you have been cooking fillets because they sound simpler, you have been halving your catch.

The weight goes the wrong way slightly — skewers are 1.4 against fillets' 1.0 — but 120 health at 1.4 still beats 60 at 1.0 comfortably.

Which generalises: check whether a better recipe exists for the fish you already have. As with the Monkfish, the ingredient is often not the constraint — the recipe is.

Practical tips

  • Nine fish dishes, and seven sit at 25–30 sustenance.
  • Fish heal; meals feed. Carry both, not several of one.
  • Sun Baked Sole: 130 health for 30 sustenance — the pattern in one dish.
  • Stuffed Catfish is the best food in the game — 200 health, 80 sustenance, 0.7 weight.
  • Monkfish Skewers are exactly double Monkfish Fillets on both numbers.
  • Roasted Lobster is weakest on both counts, but light at 0.7.
  • On sustenance per weight, fish are poor — 30 per unit for Steamed Beltfish.
  • Check for a better recipe before cooking the obvious one.

Conclusion

Dragonwilds' nine fish dishes follow one pattern almost without exception: high health, low sustenance. Seven of the nine sit at 25 or 30 sustenance, while healing runs from Roasted Lobster's 50 up through Steamed Beltfish and Smoked Infernal Eel at 100, Monkfish Skewers at 120 and Sun Baked Sole at 130. That makes fish healing items with a food label — excellent for a boss fight, poor for a journey, since Steamed Beltfish gives just 30 sustenance per unit of weight. Two dishes break the pattern and both are worth knowing: Stuffed Catfish delivers 200 health, 80 sustenance and 0.7 weight, which makes it the best food in the game outright; and Monkfish Skewers are exactly double Monkfish Fillets on both figures, from the same fish — a reminder that the recipe, not the ingredient, is usually the constraint.
