Every Ammunition Type in Palworld 1.0 (& The Gunpowder Chain)

Card showing the Wood to Charcoal to Gunpowder to bullets production chain.

Palworld's guns are only as good as your ability to feed them, and by the endgame that stops being a detail. A Heavy Assault Rifle round costs 10 Gunpowder — and since each Gunpowder is 2 Charcoal and 1 Sulfur, and each Charcoal is 2 Wood, a single bullet costs 40 Wood and 10 Sulfur before you count the ingot. This guide covers the whole chain, every ammunition recipe in the game, and the point where the design quietly stops using gunpowder at all.

The Gunpowder Chain

Gunpowder unlocks at Technology 21. Its description: "Gunpowder used to fire ammunition. Required to make bullets." Charcoal's is equally direct: "Charcoal made from burning Wood. It can be combined with Sulfur to create Gunpowder."

So one Gunpowder really costs 4 Wood + 1 Sulfur, plus 50 work across two stations.

Wood is free; Sulfur is the cap. Wood comes off a Logging Site at Technology 7 forever. Sulfur does not — it is described as "Sulfur that can be found in volcanoes and such", and your three routes are:

  • Volcanic zone mining nodes.
  • Pierdon, which drops 4 – 5 Sulfur at a 100% rate — the most reliable farm.
  • The Sulfur Mine (Technology 46), which produces 1 Sulfur per 80 work.

Note that Sulfur is also the second ingredient in Polymer (2 High Quality Pal Oil + 1 Sulfur), so an endgame base is competing with itself for it.

The Ballistic vs Energy Fork

Card contrasting gunpowder-hungry ballistic ammo against component-based energy ammo.

Read the table from the bottom and a design split appears. Palworld's late weapons come in two families that draw on completely different supply chains:

    Ballistic — gunpowder-hungry:

RoundGunpowderReal cost in Wood + Sulfur
Combat SMG Ammo624 Wood, 6 Sulfur
Prototype Shotgun Ammo832 Wood, 8 Sulfur
Heavy Assault Rifle Ammo1040 Wood, 10 Sulfur
Tactical Grenade Launcher Ammo1040 Wood, 10 Sulfur

Energy — no gunpowder at all:

RoundRecipe
Plasma Cartridge1 Thermal Core, 2 Hexolite
Charge Rifle Ammo1 Bio Battery, 1 Thermal Core
Rocket Ammo3 Hexolite, 1 Thermal Core
Plasma Rifle Ammo1 Bio Battery, 3 Paloxite Ingot, 2 Soralite Ingot
Beam Launcher Ammo1 Bio Battery, 6 Paloxite Ingot, 2 Soralite Ingot

The numbers on the ballistic side are worse than they look. A thirty-round magazine for the Heavy Assault Rifle costs 300 Gunpowder — which is 1,200 Wood and 300 Sulfur, plus 60 Soralite Ingot. At the Sulfur Mine's 80 work per unit, that is 24,000 work in sulfur alone for one magazine.

The energy side trades volume for component depth. No gunpowder, no wood, no sulfur — but Bio Battery, Thermal Core, Hexolite and Paloxite Ingot each sit behind their own production chains, and Beam Launcher Ammo at 6 Paloxite Ingot per round is not cheap either.

Which to commit to depends on your base, not the weapon stats. If you have a Sulfur Mine (Technology 46) and a Pierdon farm running, ballistic works. If your endgame base is built around Ancient Furnace output and relic processing, the energy line is the one already fed.

The Cheap Options Nobody Uses

Card highlighting the ammunition types that need no gunpowder and cost almost nothing.

Three entries in the table deserve attention because they sidestep the whole economy:

Arrows. The base Arrow at Technology 3 is 2 Wood and 2 Stone — the cheapest ammunition in the game by a wide margin, and both inputs come off structures you build at Technology 7. Reinforced Arrow (Technology 42) and Advanced Arrow (Technology 57) keep the bow relevant deep into the game at 2 Refined Ingot + 2 Carbon Fiber and 2 Plasteel + 5 Carbon Fiber respectively — no gunpowder in either.

Mechanical Bow Ammo is the clearest example: Technology 67, and the entire recipe is 2 Soralite Ingot. One material. Compare that to the Heavy Assault Rifle Ammo three technology levels later at 2 Soralite Ingot plus 10 Gunpowder — the bow round is strictly the cheaper feed.

Meteorite Ammo (Technology 38) is 3 Meteorite Fragment and nothing else, which makes it a pure function of how much meteorite you have collected.

Boost Gun Ammo (Technology 25) at 2 Ingot and 1 Electric Organ is worth noting as the one mid-game round with no gunpowder in it at all — useful in the window before your Sulfur supply is established.

Practical tips

  • 1 Gunpowder = 4 Wood + 1 Sulfur. Wood is free forever; Sulfur is the real constraint.
  • Pierdon drops 4 – 5 Sulfur at 100% — the most reliable farm before the Technology 46 Sulfur Mine.
  • Heavy Assault Rifle Ammo costs 10 Gunpowder per round — 1,200 Wood and 300 Sulfur for thirty.
  • Energy weapons use no gunpowder at all. Pick the family your base already supplies.
  • Mechanical Bow Ammo is 2 Soralite Ingot and nothing else — the cheapest endgame feed.
  • Sulfur is also in Polymer. An endgame base competes with itself for it.

Running your own Palworld 1.0 server

Ammunition is the clearest case of production you want happening while you are not playing. Logging Sites feeding furnaces feeding gunpowder, and a Sulfur Mine grinding out 1 per 80 work — none of it ticks with the game closed, and a magazine's worth of Heavy Assault Rifle rounds is a genuinely long production run. A dedicated Palworld 1.0 server keeps the whole chain working around the clock, supports full crossplay so a squad can split farming and crafting, and protects the stockpile with one-click backups and automatic updates.

Conclusion

Palworld's ammunition runs from the Technology 3 Arrow to Beam Launcher Ammo at Technology 80, and the chain behind most of it is 2 Wood → 1 Charcoal, then 2 Charcoal + 1 Sulfur → 1 Gunpowder at Technology 21. That makes one Gunpowder cost 4 Wood and 1 Sulfur — and since Heavy Assault Rifle Ammo needs 10 Gunpowder per round, a single magazine runs to 1,200 Wood and 300 Sulfur. Sulfur is the binding constraint, best farmed from Pierdon at 4 – 5 per kill (100%) until the Sulfur Mine at Technology 46. The endgame then forks: ballistic rounds are gunpowder-hungry, while energy rounds — Plasma, Charge Rifle, Rocket, Beam Launcher — use none at all, drawing on Bio Battery, Thermal Core, Hexolite and Paloxite instead. Commit to whichever chain your base already feeds.
