Emberwood Region Guide (RuneScape: Dragonwilds)

Emberwood is a collapsed village in the Fellhollow region of Ashenfall, built around a small lake that once powered the settlement's mill. Every structure here has lost its roof, a large cemetery wraps around the cathedral, and the whole village sits behind a magical barrier that only opens once you've earned blessings from four god shrines scattered around its edges. Added in the "Eye on Ashenfall" - 0.10 update on 15 December 2025, Emberwood is as much a lore location as a loot stop: two dragons, four faiths, and a curse are all buried in its ruins.
Origins and the Withering Curse

Emberwood was meant to be a utopia. A Priestly Journal found on-site describes it directly: "Emberwood could have been the great human utopia. Faiths working side by side. Amalgamated and not – villagers who do not let their differences define them." The village was guarded by two dragons, Imaru and Xikotal, and protected by shrines to Saradomin, Guthix, Zamorak and Armadyl working in concert.
Imaru's protection was concrete, not just symbolic. Her most devoted followers were branded with a mark that made them healthier and longer-lived, and she blessed rejuvenation pools to create purification water that staved off illness and the Wither-rot. When the withering curse struck anyway, priests from all four faiths used the buried bones' residual prayer-power to raise a barrier of belief, binding it to the shrines' own icons so it could only be lifted by working the shrines together again. Imaru's grief at losing her village turned that barrier into a prison, and she placed a piece of the curse at its heart as an anchor.
Cathedral, Mill and the Four Shrines

The cathedral holds a purifying pool and is ringed by the village's large cemetery; a chest in the graveyard just west of it spawns several skeletal enemies the first time you open it. Nearby, the mill is a collapsed structure that once ran off the central lake, and scattered ruined homes hide small finds — one shack north-east of the cathedral holds the thorny irit root and the lazily-penned diary.
Reopening the village means satisfying all four shrines, and each one has its own condition:
- Armadyl's Shrine — south-west of the village, in the middle of a small lake, guarded by three ghosts (Suspicious, Shady and Snickering). It requires identifying a crime, a perpetrator and a motive before it will unlock.
- Guthix's Shrine — far west, at a stone circle a green dragon has since made its home. A chest sits behind one of the south-western standing stones, and a spectral door on the southern side needs you to be soul rifted to enter an area where soul stone can be mined with a steel pickaxe.
- Saradomin's Shrine — east of the barrier, missing its own symbol, which is sitting in the water just west of the shrine.
- Zamorak's Shrine — north-east of the barrier, inside a church; reaching it to activate the shrine requires Windstep or building your way to the top.
At the region's far western edge sits the Dragonkin Vault, Kalistrakthen Kara, next to a small pond with a rune essence geyser and a nature spirit.
Resources, Threats and the People Who Lived Here

Gatherable nodes include an anima vent, coal deposit, granite deposit, iron ore node, rune essence geyser and stone boulder, alongside cadavaberry bushes, corpse cotton plants and pumpkin plants, plus ash, oak and willow trees. Soul stones are also minable here, but only once you're soul rifted.
Combat is a mix of the withering and the wild: dragon wolves, nature spirits, skeletal warriors and archers, plain zombies, and a full set of withered enemies — rotridden rats, rotsworn marauders, rotsworn necromancers and rotsworn zombies. The region's mini-boss is the green dragon living at Guthix's stone circle.
The people who once lived here are documented in the world's lore items. The Hoplites were Emberwood's main military force, drawn from farmers and artisans rather than nobility, famous for shield-wall discipline built over years of training that reportedly ended in communal barbeques — a unity that became a fatal weakness once the withering turned members against their own ranks. The Wild Knights were elite monster-hunters who fought threats warped by the Anima Twist. The Children of Shadows were a Zamorakian cult whose rituals did nothing at all, though one member, Sadia Vulketra, forged Fellhollow's first steel gear out of concern for Saradominist attacks. Druids performed rites at the standing stones, and Emberwood's under-funded but active magical community favoured the Amulet of Magic. One resident, the hunter Bilar Amaris, is credited as the reason green dragonhide armour became standard gear for the village's best hunters after his death. Five lore scraps are scattered through the ruins, including two of Ravanna's journals and a note pointing toward Farmer Fred's journal near the entrance to Dragon's Run.
Practical tips
- The barrier around Emberwood needs all four god shrines satisfied — Armadyl, Guthix, Saradomin and Zamorak — not just one.
- Reaching Zamorak's Shrine needs Windstep or building height; reaching Guthix's Shrine's spectral door needs soul rifting plus a steel pickaxe for the soul stone behind it.
- Saradomin's Shrine's missing symbol is in the water just west of the shrine, not somewhere you need to fight for.
- The green dragon mini-boss lives at Guthix's stone circle, the same spot as that shrine's chest.
Running your own Dragonwilds server
Exploring a lore-dense region like Emberwood is a lot more fun with a crew who can split up between shrines instead of one person soul rifting, mining and puzzle-solving alone. A dedicated server keeps the world running for your group on your own schedule, with your own PvP and difficulty settings, rather than depending on one player's game staying open.
Conclusion
Emberwood is less a loot run than a crime scene: a utopia that four faiths and two dragons couldn't save from the withering, now locked behind a barrier that needs the same cooperation that once protected it. Clear all four shrines, mind Guthix's soul-rifted door and Zamorak's church, and the cathedral, mill and Dragonkin Vault are yours to pick through.
