Black Dragonhide Armour in Dragonwilds: The New 1.0 Ranged Set

RuneScape: Dragonwilds' 15 September 2026 update added Black Dragon Hide as a new Basic Material, and with it a full Black Dragonhide armour set — Coif, Body and Chaps, all Power Level 8. It's the ranged-focused counterpart to the game's Rune-tier gear, and it's built from a hide you take off one specific, nasty enemy: the Black Dragon, camped in the Scorned Wilderness. Here's what the wiki actually documents about that dragon, the set's stats, and the tannery recipe that turns hide into wearable leather — plus exactly where the documentation runs out.
Meet the Black Dragon

The wiki lists Black Dragons (also called "lesser black dragons") as Power Level 8, race Dragon, found in the Scorned Wilderness, and aggressive. They're weak to Water and immune to both Fire and Bleed — so fire-damage or bleed-stacking builds are wasted here. Expect a 4–5 day respawn, so a repeat hide run isn't a same-day errand.
Their documented attacks: Lunge; Tail sweep (if behind them); Fire Claw Slash; Poison Blast; Fire Breath; Wing Attack; and Fly, from which they can drop a Fire Breath shot in a line that staggers and can lock a player in to take all the damage. The wiki flags one genuine departure from older RuneScape games: "Unlike the Black dragons from RuneScape, Old School RuneScape, and RuneScape Classic, these can do poison damage."
One gap worth stating plainly: the Black Dragon's own page has a Drops section, but it's empty — no populated table, no listed rate. The hide link is confirmed only on the Black Dragon Hide page, which says the material is "Obtained from felling black dragons" — a kill gives the hide, but how many, or at what rate, isn't documented.
Black Dragonhide Coif, Body, and Chaps: Ranged Defence Stats

All three pieces sit at Power Level 8, per the Armour page's Ranged Armour table:
| Piece | Melee Def | Ranged Def | Magic Def |
|---|---|---|---|
| Black Dragonhide Body | 54 | 58 | 54 |
| Black Dragonhide Chaps | 33 | 35 | 33 |
| Black Dragonhide Coif | 22 | 23 | 22 |
Add the Ranged Def values and you get 23 + 58 + 35 = 116 across a full set, against 22 + 54 + 33 = 109 for either Melee or Magic Def — a +7 gap in favor of ranged defence, matching the wiki's own description: "Ranged armour (offers the highest defence against ranged damage)." That gap isn't even across the three pieces, though: Coif is 23 − 22 = +1, Chaps is 35 − 33 = +2, and Body is 58 − 54 = +4 — the ranged edge is small on the lighter pieces and most pronounced on the Body, and those three deltas (1 + 2 + 4) are what add up to the +7 total.
Dedicated Coif and Chaps wiki pages don't exist; instead, the Armour page's own table lists "Crafted via armour bench" for both the Coif and Chaps rows. The dedicated Black Dragonhide Body page, by contrast, is a bare stub that only confirms "Black Dragonhide Body is a Power level 8 Armour" — it doesn't repeat a crafting-station line, even though it sits in the same Ranged Armour table as the other two.
Set Bonuses and the Tanning Recipe

Wearing the set stacks three bonuses: 1 piece: +40 Stealth speed; 2 pieces: -33% Ranged attack stamina cost; 3 pieces: +25% Weak point damage. That's a set built around sneaking into range, firing without stamina draining you, then finishing on a weak point — the leather's own flavor text says as much: "Rangers are stealthy little blighters... that preference makes black dragon leather hugely attractive to a ranger."
The hide isn't wearable on its own — it has to be tanned first. Per the wiki: "1 x Black Dragon Leather is produced at the Advanced Tannery from 1 x Black Dragon Hide + 1 x Dragon Blood + 1 x Ground Rune Essence." The skill gating that recipe is listed only as Artisan (required level and XP not stated on the wiki; listed as "?") — an explicit gap in the source, not an omission here.
Here's the part worth being blunt about: the exact Black Dragon Leather quantity needed to craft each Coif, Body or Chaps piece is not documented. The Armour page's Crafting Requirements cells for all three pieces are blank, and Black Dragon Leather's own Products table doesn't list the Coif, Body or Chaps at all. What that table does document is leather going into Rune-tier gear at the armour bench: Rune Helm (125 XP: 4 Rune Bar, 4 Black Dragon Leather, 1 Vis Cloth, 1 Harmonised Compound, 1 Draconic Vis Wax); Rune Platebody (10 Rune Bar, 8 Black Dragon Leather, 3 Vis Cloth, 3 Harmonised Compound, 3 Draconic Vis Wax); and Rune Platelegs (6 Rune Bar, 6 Black Dragon Leather, 2 Vis Cloth, 2 Harmonised Compound, 2 Draconic Vis Wax). If you're stockpiling leather for Rune gear, that table has your numbers; for the Dragonhide set itself, the wiki simply hasn't published them yet.
Black Dragon Hide stacks to 99 and, per the wiki, "This item is not sold in any shops." — the only documented route to it is combat. Black Dragon Leather also stacks to 99, but its own wiki page carries no shop-availability line at all, so whether the tanned leather itself can ever be bought is undocumented — don't assume the hide's no-shops rule automatically extends to the leather.
Quick tips: bring Water-based damage, not fire or bleed, into a Black Dragon fight. Budget for a 4–5 day respawn before planning a repeat run. Stock Dragon Blood and Ground Rune Essence before visiting the Advanced Tannery — the hide alone won't produce leather. And if you're saving leather for a specific piece, check whether it's Dragonhide (unlisted quantity) or Rune gear (fully listed in the Products table) before spending it.
Running your own Dragonwilds server
A dedicated server is the practical way to actually farm a 4–5 day respawn timer as a group instead of soloing it — everyone shares the same world state, so nobody's waiting on one person's client being online when the Black Dragon respawns in the Scorned Wilderness. You control the settings that matter for a hunting party: PvP on or off, world configuration, and who has admin/console access to manage the session, without needing your own machine running around the clock.

Conclusion
Black Dragonhide is Dragonwilds 1.0's dedicated ranged set: three Power Level 8 pieces with a small but consistent ranged-defence edge over melee and magic (116 vs. 109 summed), plus stealth, stamina, and weak-point bonuses at 1/2/3 pieces. Getting there means beating a Water-weak, Fire/Bleed-immune dragon in the Scorned Wilderness and running the hide through an Advanced Tannery recipe that also eats Dragon Blood and Ground Rune Essence. The one number the wiki won't give you yet is how much leather each armour piece actually costs — track that gap, don't guess past it, and you'll know exactly what this set is and isn't confirmed to need.
