You gather 10 corrupted essence samples from ravens, collect three specific ingredients, and track the corruption to its source — which turns out to be a corrupted chicken named Putrilius on the roof of the Grand Hall. The quest has two start conditions. Speaking to Zanik works, but so does simply picking up a corrupted essence sample from a raven — so it is possible to start this quest without meaning to, the same way Shrimp Catcher triggers on crafting a net.
The Ten Samples
Zanik asks for 10 corrupted essence samples from corrupted ravens scattered across the region. This is the quest's gathering phase and the reason arrows or bolts are recommended — ravens are flying targets, and closing to melee range on each of ten is slower than shooting them.
Hold onto spares if you find them. The reason appears at the end: 50 infernal fragments are collected by trading 10 corrupted essence samples with Putrilius, the chicken you find at the source. So the quest wants ten to hand to Zanik and another ten to trade — worth knowing before you stop gathering at exactly ten.

The dragon blood has a difficulty escape hatch. Dowdun Reach's dragon is the Blue Dragon at 4,000 health, power level 6, weak to Water and resistant to Fire and Ranged. If that is more than you want, a dragon wolf in Fellhollow supplies the same ingredient from a much softer fight. That is an unusually generous alternative and worth taking if you are under-geared.
The twilight lily is the easy one — it glows blue, it is in front of an anima tree, and The Lake is a short walk south-west of where Zanik is standing.
You Can Sneak Past the Cathedral
The unholy water sits in dangerous company:
Behind The Cathedral, near three Zamorakian acolytes, a mage of Zamorak, and two elite Black Knights.
That is six enemies including two Elite Black Knights, which at 1,680 health each and weak only to Air is a fight most players do not want on top of everything else.
The walkthrough gives the answer directly:
You do not need to fight any of the enemies here — you can sneak to the fountain south-west of them to collect it.
Take the sneak. The water is at a fountain south-west of the group, and nothing about the objective requires clearing them.
Finding the Source
Head to The Nexus and make your way to The Grand Hall. Then use Windstep to climb to the roof — with a warning attached: a Black Knight sniper and a Black Knight guardian are up there.
Both are worth knowing before you arrive. The Sniper has 560 health, is weak to Stab and Fire, and resists Bolts and Arrows — so the arrows you brought for the ravens will not serve here. The Guardian has 910 health and is weak to Crush and Earth.
On the roof you find Putrilius, a corrupted chicken, and complete the dialogue with him. Then return to Zanik and report what you found.

The recipe is the durable half. A one-off cape is a cape; a cape recipe means the item is repeatable, which matters if you lose one or want to outfit a group.
The infernal fragments are conditional on a trade, not automatic — you go back to Putrilius with ten more samples. If you gathered exactly ten for Zanik, you have another ten ravens to shoot.
