Berries in Valheim: Five Hours to Respawn, and Destroyed Bushes Never Come Back
Valheim's three berries all weigh 0.1, stack to 50, and respawn 18,000 seconds — five real hours — after picking. That part is generous. The part that is not: there is currently no way to replant berry bushes, and if they are destroyed they will not grow back.
A berry bush cleared with an axe is permanently removed from your world.

The Three Berries

All three weigh 0.1, stack to 50 and teleport, so carrying them is never a consideration.
Cloudberries are worth roughly double a raspberry — 13 health against 7, 40 stamina against 20 — and they last 900 seconds against 600, which is a 50% longer buff on top.
Their description is "the gold of the forest," and for once the flavour text is accurate: Cloudberries are a Plains food that stays useful into the late game as a stamina slot.
Each bush gives one berry per harvest, and the yield is affected by the Farming skill.
The Respawn Rules, and the Trap

Cloudberries have a specific exemption worth knowing. The wiki notes that cloudberry plants remain intact if ground cover is cleared with the hoe — but they still will not regrow if destroyed.
Raspberry and blueberry bushes are unforgiving. Chopping a bush yields "a small amount of wood" and permanently costs you the berry source. On a base site you are levelling, that is easy to do without noticing.
Five hours is real time, not in-game time. A picked bush is empty for most of a session.
Blueberries have a second source: they appear randomly in barrels outside Greydwarf Towers, which is the only way to get them without a Black Forest bush.
What Berries Are Actually For
Berries are worth more as ingredients than as food:
- Queen's jam — the early-tier cooked food that turns raspberries and blueberries into a real meal.
- Mead base: Minor healing — Honey x10, Blueberries x5, Raspberries x10, Dandelion x1.
- Mead base: Medium healing — Honey x10, Bloodbag x4, Raspberries x10, Dandelion x1.
- Mead base: Medium stamina — Honey x10, Cloudberries x10, Yellow mushroom x10.
- Taming — all three are listed as taming food.
- Building — Cloudberries feed several banner recipes.
Raspberries are the mead workhorse at x10 per base, in two separate healing meads. Ten raspberries is ten bushes, or one bush across five hours of respawns.
That maths is why you protect bushes. A serious mead operation needs a raspberry patch you have deliberately left standing.
Farming Them Without Farming Them
Since berries cannot be planted, the only management available is preservation:
- Never clear a berry patch when levelling a base. They look like ordinary bushes and they are slightly brighter green.
- Fence or wall a raspberry patch near your base. Greydwarves and boars will destroy bushes in a fight.
- Note the biome split — Meadows for raspberries, Black Forest for blueberries, Plains for cloudberries — so no single base covers all three.
- Use the hoe carefully in the Plains. Cloudberries survive hoe clearing; the other two do not enjoy any such protection.
- Harvest on a five-hour rotation if you are farming seriously, and mark patches on the map.
- Raise the Farming skill, which affects harvest yield on all three.
And chop bushes for wood only where there are no berries. Ordinary bushes give the same small amount of wood without costing you a permanent resource.
