A Melody Remembered in Dragonwilds: The Amulet You Need Is Not the One You Think

A music box on a desk in the Stormtouched Highlands.

A Melody Remembered is a two-item hand-in quest with one trap that will cost you a full crafting run. The music box wants an inspiring ring of Runecrafting and, afterwards, an amulet of Magic — and the wiki flags the second explicitly: "not to be confused with the inspiring amulet of Magic." They are different items. Bringing the wrong one means crafting the right one from scratch.

The Two Items, and the Trap

Card warning about the difference between the amulet of Magic and the inspiring amulet of Magic.

The music box asks for two things in sequence:

  1. An inspiring ring of Runecrafting
  2. Later, an amulet of Magic — and here the wiki interrupts itself: "(not to be confused with the inspiring amulet of Magic.)"

Read that twice before you craft anything. Dragonwilds has an inspiring line of jewellery — the Inspiring Trinkets, twelve rings and amulets each granting +5% XP — and a separate ordinary line. The ring this quest wants is from the inspiring line. The amulet it wants is not.

That is a deliberately confusing pair, and it is the only place in the game where the two lines are requested side by side. Getting it wrong is not a small mistake: an amulet is 1 clay mould, 2 gold bars, 2 silver bars, 4 sapphires and 6 vault shards.

What Each Item Costs to Make

The quest publishes full crafting fallbacks, which is unusually generous — you can either own the items or make them:

ItemOr craft from
Inspiring ring of Runecrafting1 clay mould, 2 silver bars, 2 opals, 3 vault shards
Amulet of Magic1 clay mould, 2 gold bars, 2 silver bars, 4 sapphires, 6 vault shards
Jeweler's bench12 oak planks, 8 ground sandstone, 2 gold bars, 2 silver bars, 1 vault core

The amulet is roughly double the ring on every axis — twice the vault shards, four sapphires against two opals, and gold bars on top of silver.

And you need the bench too. The Jeweler's bench is listed as a requirement in its own right, at 12 oak planks, 8 ground sandstone, 2 gold bars, 2 silver bars and 1 vault core. If you have not built one, that is a third crafting project before you can start the first two.

Total vault shards across all three: 9, plus a vault core. That is the real gate on this quest — vault shards come from vault content, so a jewellery quest is quietly a vault quest.

The Location

A ruined building south of the Garou King's fortress, following the road to it, with a music box on a desk inside.

That puts the quest start in the same corner of the Highlands as Dog Days' second act, where the King's castle sits in the north-west. If you are doing both, the routing overlaps.

Several Garou are listed as enemies, which means the usual Highlands problem: the five types split four ways on weakness — Hunter to Air, Berserker to Ranged, Druid to Fire, Thane and King to Crush — and the Highlands versions carry the power-level-4 health values, roughly 39% above their Fractured Plains counterparts.

Ravanna's Ring

Card noting that Ravanna's ring comes with its recipe.

The reward is Ravanna's ring, and — as with Heartstrings' Crystal bow and Mirror, Mirror's Ulv's longbow — it comes with the recipe to craft more.

That is the pattern across Dragonwilds' named-item quests, and it is worth internalising: the object is the immediate reward and the recipe is the durable one. A ring you lose is a ring; a ring recipe is a ring supply.

Ravanna is also a name from the journals. The quest's own start point in Letters for the Dead sits at Ravanna's third journal, which places this ring inside the same story thread rather than as an isolated trinket.

Running your own Dragonwilds server

A quest gated on vault shards and a jeweller's bench is a multi-session project, and multi-session projects need a world that keeps your workshop. A gamever Dragonwilds server keeps Ashenfall persistent with automatic updates and one-click backups.

Conclusion

A Melody Remembered was added on 19 May 2026, starts at a music box on a desk in a ruined building south of the Garou King's fortress in the Stormtouched Highlands, and has no quest prerequisite — only the region's difficulty. It asks for an inspiring ring of Runecrafting and then an amulet of Magic, and the wiki interrupts itself to warn that this is "not to be confused with the inspiring amulet of Magic" — two different items from two different jewellery lines, requested side by side. Getting it wrong costs a full craft: an amulet is 1 clay mould, 2 gold bars, 2 silver bars, 4 sapphires and 6 vault shards, roughly double the ring's 1 mould, 2 silver bars, 2 opals and 3 vault shards. A Jeweler's bench is a third project at 12 oak planks, 8 ground sandstone, 2 gold bars, 2 silver bars and 1 vault core — which makes the real gate nine vault shards and a vault core, so a jewellery quest is quietly a vault quest. The reward, Ravanna's ring, arrives with its recipe, following the same pattern as the Crystal bow and Ulv's longbow.
